The GLA are seeking to appoint two engaged, dynamic and committed people to contribute at a strategic level as a London Museum Board Member. Members will actively engage with and on behalf of the Museum as advocates for our work. They will contribute time and energy in ensuring that the London Museum Strategic Plan is shaped and delivered to achieve bold ambitions on behalf of London.
This is an opportunity to join the Museum’s Board at an important time, as we develop and open a new museum for London on the site we are developing in Smithfield. The scale and scope of this project requires innovative and creative thinking from Board members, an appetite for achievement, a willingness to challenge positively, and an aptitude to support and work with the Executive and other Board and Advisory members.
London’s diversity is its biggest asset and the Mayor strives to reflect London’s diversity in all board appointments. We welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. A Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) is in place for disabled candidates who meet the assessment criteria.
To achieve our huge ambitions, we are seeking Board Members who bring specific skills derived from their professional backgrounds;
- Organisational Leadership – having run an organisation or business or led part of a large organisation. Bringing knowledge of personnel matters, culture, brand, organisational change, and fiscal management.
- Communications Expertise – having worked in a senior position in PR, corporate communications, commercial or not-for-profit with demonstrable experience of brand launches, major events, and reputation management in the national and international spheres.
- Legal, IP, Governance – having specific skills to support the Museum as it develops its brand and expands its trading activities. Experience of negotiating deals, protecting rights and experience of a broad range of complex legal matters that may affect a cultural institution such as a Museum.
Experience in one or more of these areas would be important.
